Air Canada AC091 – GRU Sao Paulo ✈ YYZ Toronto International Business Class

This one starts out with a little story… before it even begins. Originally this flight was to depart from Rio de Janeiro (GIG), but after the booking, AC changed the departure to Sao Paulo, which I believe was their pre-Olympics route. So, rather than rebook on United, who screwed up the ending of the Greek trip, booked a little 1-hour flight from GIG to GRU on Avianca. Hopefully worth the effort.

Right from the start at check-in, you felt it was going to a great flight. Considering Air Canada only has one flight a day from Sao Paulo, our agent was quite knowledgable and proud of her airline, and that continued with the entire crew once on board. Everyone felt proud to be part of the experience of flying with them.
The seating is great, in a reverse herringbone configuration so all seats get an aisle, and you get 2 windows, lovely. The styling and craftsmanship on the seating is top notch and classy. Entertainment system is great and the screen perfectly large. My only complaint is that is could not be totally turned off, so whenever an announcement came on, the screen would light up, making it difficult to sleep uninterrupted.
The food and wine selections were OK, but not fantastic, but the service was spot on. The main FA later explained that he preferred the food out of Toronto, rather than who they used in Sao Paulo.

And the Boeing 787-9 is a wonderful plane, especially in the front (Coach gets a bit squeezed back there). Landing in Toronto was smooth though we had a few minutes to wait for our gate to be readied. Deplaned and said so long to the crew, next stop… US Customs in Toronto and then on to Los Angeles, again on Air Canada, yeah!
