Norwegian Air Shuttle DY7088 – LAX Los Angeles ✈ ARN Stockholm Economy

Yes, I was a skeptic. When I hear Economy Class on a Low Cost Carrier (LCC) and Long Haul all in the same sentence… fear strikes. But, I did it and more than survived, I can easily go again, and for 225.00 to Europe, can’t beat the price. It was not without a few aches and pains, but the service was far and beyond my expectations.

Norwegian Air Shuttle flies the 787-8 out of LAX to Stockholm, and when sitting in Coach, it’s a “Squeezeliner” in the back with it’s 9 across seating… but this is common on all the 787 seating. And the pitch / legroom on Norwegian is moderate at 31+”. I have flown a few different airlines 787s and they all have that tight squeeze… you always hope that the center seat will be empty, when it is, room to spread out.

Checking in at Tom Bradley, they had Kiosks for “easy” checkin, but the Kiosk did not like my Passport for whatever reason, but the desk agents were quick and friendly. So it was a rather easy checkin. At the gate, boarding was a bit chaotic, but that is more an LAX staffing issue… and may be the reason this flight has a habit of leaving late. But once airborne things got good. You get to start ordering the snacks and drinks from the touch screen, a feature I love and hope to see more of. The FAs are young and look a bit sassy and geeky in their Moods of Norway uniforms. They get to work as soon as they get the all clear signal, and deliver the initial orders. I knew one has to preorder food and a few other things, so after drinks, dinner served right away. And glad I order Vegetarian, a lot of European mystery meats in those boxed dinners. But the meals were better than expected, they usually are with the Economy Pre-Order meals. The In Flight Entertainment (IFE) worked flawlessly, and yeah! no IFE box blocking precious legroom. Later I actually slept a bit, careful not snuggle up to the guy next to me. And then a final landing snack, and before I knew it… hello Stockholm Arlanda.

Overall, I am super impressed that Norwegian provided such a good service at the cost, I can easily fly them again, even in the back. However, I will put in a higher bid for Premium Economy next time. My only negative comments would be that the arm rests on the seats were damn hard and had an edge that only annoys after a few hours. And my plane was a white tailed, so no Norwegian Super Hero, bummer.
