Destination: The Caribbean Lesser Antilles Islands

These islands were the first part of the New World

The archipelago forming a boundary between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean… east and south of Puerto Rico.

Tourist Visa for US Citizens: There are many governments overseeing these islands… entry will generally be easy for USA Passport holders, but do check before arrival.

The Lesser Antilles is divided into two main sections, from north to south.

LEEWARD ISLANDS
Not to be confused with Leeward Antilles in the southern Caribbean.

U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS
Is an organized territory of the United States. Saint Thomas is the main island and city.

A dependency of the United Kingdom, separated by only a mile of channel from the USVI.

The northern half is French. The south is Dutch, who call it Sint Maarten, capital Philipsburg.

An overseas department of France, capital Gustavia.

SABA
A municipality of the Netherlands.

SINT EUSTATIUS
A municipality of the Netherlands.

SAINT KITTS & NEVIS
A sovereign nation.

A sovereign nation, capital Saint John’s.

MONTSERRAT
A dependency of the United Kingdom.

GUADELOUPE
An overseas department of France, capital Basse-Terre.

WINDWARD ISLANDS
These are all sovereign nations except Martinique, a department of France.

BARBADOS
Capital Bridgetown, is east of the archipelago and not part of the Windward Islands proper.

DOMINICA
Has its capital at Roseau.

MARTINIQUE
A French department with its capital at Fort-de-France.

Has its capital at Castries

have their capital at Kingstown.

GRENADA
Has its capital at St Georges.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
Capital Port-of-Spain, is southeast of the archipelago, and not part of the Windward Islands proper.

LEEWARD ANTILLES
While we are on the subject, though not part of the Lesser Antilles, The Leeward Antilles (also known as the ABC Islands) are in the southern Caribbean, off the coast of Venezuela. All three islands are associated with the Netherlands, as part of the defunct entity The Netherlands Antilles.

ARUBA and CURAÇAO
Are constituent countries with high autonomy.

BONAIRE
An integrated municipality of the Netherlands.
