French Polynesia is 118 geographically-dispersed islands in the South Pacific; the area stretches over 1,245 miles. You’re probably most familiar with Tahiti or Bora Bora, but Mo’orea and Raiatea are also charmers. Snorkeling, diving, Tahitian dance workshops, and straight-up lying around on the beach are all popular activities.
The French Polynesian islands make a great tropical getaway. On the same time zone as Hawaii, with much more cultural variety.
Air Tahiti Nui flights daily non-stop from LAX to Papeete. Air France has it’s own non-stop (originating in Paris).
Once in French Polynesia, Air Tahiti flies to all the larger islands and has flights to the Cook Islands as well.
There really is no bad time to visit French Polynesia. That said, best months to visit are November and April. These short shoulder seasons offer fine weather with temperatures in the mid-70s to mid-80s. High season runs from May to October when rain showers are isolated and the number of tourists increases, as do the rates.
The humid season -also called Rainy season- starts in November and ends in March. It brings mugginess, humidity as well as heavier and more frequent rains than in the dry season. During this season, the occasional tropical storm may pass through the islands.
