When I told our travel friend Jeff that I was planning a 2 day stop in Frankfurt, he plainly asked “Why are you going to Frankfurt ?”… and now I know why.
Frankfurt is not a bad place, just awfully dull, pleasant but uninteresting. And it may have the worst of German food to offer.
Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is the major hub for Lufthansa. Very easy getting here, and just grab a taxi to where you are going. For those who prefer the train, is it well connected to the Terminal with a Regional and Long Distance Rail Station.
Hainstraße 25, 61476 Kronberg im Taunus
In the hills above Frankfurt, though I am no golfer, this makes a wonderful German Retreat.
Kennedyallee 70, 60596 Frankfurt am Main
A beautiful hotel and they did a great restoration. Good service and Bar Kennedy is great for a drink… but sadly the restaurant was not up to expectations.
Gutleutstraße 85, 60329 Frankfurt am Main
Member of the Design Hotels, these folks went a step or two to many in the Shades of Black sexy decor. The restaurant was great, and staff were amusing, in that German kind of way.
Thurn-und-Taxis-Platz 2, 60313 Frankfurt am Main
More appropriate for the power players, but a very good high end option.
Get the hell out of Frankfurt options:
FRA – Frankfurt Airport
Probably your best bet for a quick and easy night in Frankfurt before you catch the morning flights back to the states.
FRA – Frankfurt Airport
Expensive for a transit hotel, but you remain Airside, and you get a great view of the tarmac. Ideal for a short term rest stop.
Daniel has done a great review of MY CLOUD transit hotel over at the OMAAT site.
Sadly, except for a Turkish place close to Hotel Roomers, I really couldn’t find anything worth recommending. Frankfurt is more like a survival dining city.
@ Villa Kennedy
A great room and the drinks were lovely, but judging from the lunch they served, a food disaster.
Wilhelm-Epstein-Straße 14, Nebeneingang, 60431
Closed for several years to update the exhibit, I was really looking forward to going to this… sadly a very big disappointment. There are a few tid-bits of great, but overall it is a big PR thing to convince children they need to invest with Deutschen Bundesbank for their futures. But it is open on Sunday.
60549 Frankfurt, Germany
The only reason to spend any time in Frankfurt is the Lufthansa First Class Terminal. So if need be, maybe just stay at an Airport Hotel option if departing on an early morning back to the US.
• Overnight at the Airport, and get the hell out of Frankfurt as quickly as possible.
• Do not spend anytime in Germany on a Sunday, all things tend to be closed.
Need a bit of help planning a trip?
Let me know.
