Home to 40 museums, the city of culture for connoisseurs has the highest concentration of museums in the country. Basel also has a beautiful Old Town, modern architecture, and the Rhine – an inviting spot to rest a while.
Basel is full of contrasts. The historic old town meets modern architecture. A mix of tradition and innovation. Punctuated by culture and architecture. A city of culture and at the same time a thriving metropolis on the Rhine with a great quality of life and plenty to enjoy. Be inspired by these contrasts.

Located at the crossroads of three countries, the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois – “The Three Kings” – lives up to its royal reputation. Since 1681, notables that include Napoleon Bonaparte and Theodor Herzl have stayed in its lavish accommodations, which feature fine brocade and bold hues, along with antiques and original artworks. The views over the Rhine and Basel’s Old Town are equally dramatic. Peter Knogl’s French haute cuisine, enriched with Mediterranean and Asian influences, has garnered three Michelin stars for the Cheval Blanc; other dining choices include the French/Swiss Brasserie.

Basel-Bruderholz
Named after Hans Stucki, who put it on the map in the 1960s, this traditional restaurant on the outskirts of Basel’s wealthy Bruderholz district has been the domain of award-winning chef Tanja Grandits since 2008. Grandits, who turned her back on a career in chemistry to pursue the alchemy of fine dining, is known for her mastery of herbs and spices. Dishes focus on one main flavour and one colour. The dining room is pale and elegant and there’s a pretty garden terrace, plus a shop selling products from the Stucki kitchen.
