Cathay Pacific – HKG Hong Kong First Class Lounges

Review Cathay Pacific HKG First Class Lounges The Pier The Wing Report

Back to HKG for a few hours. The flight to Frankfurt is at midnight and I have a few hours to get to know this airport and the lounges. Cathay Pacific has 5 lounges in Terminal 1, two of which are First Class, so there are plenty of choices. And first up is The Wing, just turn left after Security Screening.

The Wing First
Is an open air lounge, or at least within the Terminal itself, so in the main areas it has the ambience of a Train Station, and you hear the buzz of an active terminal. The layout is lovely and the airy openness not found in any lounges I have been before has a lovely effect. The dining room has an a la carte menu and the addition of some buffet serve yourself bits. A pleasant bar area, and overall a very “classy” feel. I liked the self-serve champagne bar a lot.

The bathrooms were beautiful and this is the lounge with the Bathtub, if you want a good soak. Book the Cabana if you have time. And of course, only Aesop products with Cathay.

But all this openness and ambient buzz from the Terminal was starting annoy me after a bit… time to move on, and having sampled The Pier First two weeks before, felt I would be more comfortable there. Plus the young man who was serving me informed me there was NO Betsy Beer at the bar, which flabbergasted me… WHAT!!!

The Pier First
Back again, and under the Gate area it is more snug. Much quieter overall, and a bit more relaxing. Here is also where you can get that foot message and a few treatments… but sign up in advance, space fills quick. They have no Cabana/Bathtub here, so ladies, keep that in mind.

Though not as elegant in feel… I like THE PIER FIRST better than THE WING FIRST. It has more of a coziness and a bit less stuffy. I will say that the Dining Room and the Bar at The Wing First have a much “classier” feel. But both have the same menu, and The Pier had my Betsy Beer, even gave me a few so I could take them on the flight. From the al a carte menu, the food.. it’s quite good, but still lounge food. This whole RTW trip, that has been the biggest failing is that I am getting so damn picky about food, and it shows in places like this.

So in the end, both are fine Lounges, and if you are flying First, it would more be a matter of which was closest to your gate, but I do prefer the Pier over the Wing, though The Wing First is a bit more stylish.

An initial Report, early March en route to Denpasar.
More in depth upon the return from the trip.

Located near Gate 65, both The Pier First and Business are convenient for a connection at Terminal 1. The First Class version has a stylish Grey interior, clean and modern. It has an elegant and quiet feel. I had 45 minutes to get cleaned up after a 15 hour flight, and the shower was ready with no wait time. From the Aesop products to the shower & bath interior, it felt very accommodating. Wish I had time to get a massage, but had a flight to catch.
Needed a quick bite, so into the dining room. The menu was a little unexciting for me, but The Celestial appeared to enjoy his congee, so perhaps I should have stayed with an Asian breakfast, usually the best choice when in Asia.
And then off to the gate for the flight to Denpasar.
