Belmond Copacabana Palace – Rio De Janeiro

Review Belmond Copacabana Palace Rio De Janeiro Report

I wanted to make the first time in Rio de Janeiro specially nice, being that it was also the final stop before heading home on the #RTW Round the World Trip. The Belmond Copacabana Palace was the perfect choice. An iconic hotel right on Copacabana Beach, there is no missing it. About 20 years ago, Belmond Hotels (then Orient-Express Hotels) saved the building from being demolished and did a perfect job bringing the hotel back to glory.

Belmond Copacabana Palace – The view from 303

Our room, 303, right in the middle of the hotel, was the best on the floor and exceeded all expectations. Large suite and dining area, large bedroom and bathroom and closet. You open the windows to cool sea breeze with the sound of Copacabana filling the room. Could not have been better. The hotel is quite huge and has a lot to explore and wanter. In the center is the main pool where all the guests sort of poach in the sunlight. 2 fine dining restaurants, so you may not ever need to leave the property, though you should. Of course the Spa and Gym Facilities were excellent, and the gym even came with a hunky Brazilian Trainer! And no great hotel is without a library, though not used much by the guests, was a beautiful room. One truly lovely touch, the main landing in the main building, had a similar floral arrangement on each floor, but the colors were distinctly different per floor.

One of the highlights offered by the hotel was the personalized tour, and our guide was wonderful. Lais, a Rio native, knew all the ins and outs of the city. And showed just enough to make you want to come back and see more. Ending with feast of local foods at Espírito Santa in the hills of Santa Teresa. A fantastic way to end our trek in Rio. Lais is exclusive to the Belmond, but non-guest can book her through the hotel.

And if you are feeling really super fancy, don’t forget about the Penthouse Suites on the top floor. I did get a tour, and it’s mighty nice. Grand Suites with full butler service, and the private terrace and the “Black Pool” where you can poach in private with a rooftop view of Rio de Janeiro and Copacabana Beach.
