The Peninsula Chicago

Review The Peninsula Chicago Report

Two nights at the Peninsula in Chicago for my food run to Grace. Though they had a bit of construction out front due to building a new rooftop bar, a Bellman was there to greet the taxi, and help guide me to check-in on the upper floors. For those who are fans of Peninsula, Chicago will not disappoint… old world charm and impeccable service (the entire stay). The Main Lobby and Dining areas wonderfully appointed. May I suggest Tea Time at The Peninsula, the menu is perfect for a late afternoon gathering.

The guest rooms were recently updated with modern electronic room control pads and the lighting is all touch controlled, even from the bathtub, a nice touch. The only thing missing is the ability to order Room Service directly from the Touch Pad, since that is where the menu is. The closet was huge and easy for unpacking a bit. The King Bed as fantastically comfortable and loads of recharging stations built in nicely bedside, so in the end what more could you want. The bathroom may have been a bit lacking with only 1 sink, and the shower felt a bit tacked on with a Home Depot-ish shower head. The bathroom was the weakest part of the room and stay, a bit frumpy in style, and the Oscar de la Renta soaps were super “Old School”.

Due to my late arrival, I could only order room service at midnight, and I must say, the room service food was fantastic! Not at all “Hotel Food” but real dining quality in the room. And the next days in-room breakfast service was a winner, the Asian Breakfast was pretty dang close to Hong Kong taste, not that easy for an American Kitchen.

The Indoor Olympic-sized Swimming Pool upstairs was fabulous, with a great gym facility. The spa was nice, though the massage was a bit lack-luster. But overall, the hotel is one of the best in Chicago, to stay a day longer would have been nice, but this was a short jaunt to the windy city.
