Style: Contemporary
The Nordic countries excel in this minimalist approach. At Norway’s Juvet Landscape Hotel, guests wake to a buffet of homemade bread, local salmon, pâtés, yogurt, granola and exquisite seasonal jams. With no set lunch service, visitors are encouraged to pack sandwiches from the breakfast spread and spend their day immersed in nature, whether it’s hiking or relaxing in the wood-fired hot tub.

Steigen, Nordland
Size: 9 rooms and suites
Style: Cutting-Edge & Secluded
Even by Norwegian standards, Manshausen Island is out there. This island in the Steigen Archipelago was once a traders’ outpost, and the hotel’s 1880s-vintage main house is a relic of this era. But the sea cabins, as is evident from the photos, are quite a bit newer. These pared-down larchwood-and-glass structures perch right at the water’s edge, affording vertiginous views through full-length windows from living rooms furnished with mid-century reproduction furniture. Activities include just about anything you can get up to in the Nordic outdoors, which depends heavily on the season, of course — but these cabins are stunning year-round.
Manshausen requires additional information from guests to ensure the best stay possible. As such, reservations can only be confirmed through our customer service team. Contact us for assistance. Rates begin at 5600 NOK per night in high season.

Midtøy, Vestland
Size: 4 rooms and suites
Style: Remote
Year Opened: 1988
Lilløy Lindenberg is a place to get far away from the rest of the world, on a private island off the Vestland coast in Norway. It may be just under an hour from Bergen, but once you’re ensconced in the four-bedroom farmhouse (which can be taken exclusively or by the room), all you’ll see is the surrounding fjords and mountains, and perhaps the dolphins that stop by. This is a choose-your-own-adventure kind of escape: get creative in the music study, soak in the sauna, explore the coastline kayaking, snorkelling or kitesurfing.
LILLØY offers four bedrooms, hosting up to 10 guests, in a spacious main house and a snug annex. At the heart of the house is a kitchen designed for island cooking, with an adjacent dining room, fireplace, and botanical library bar. Outside, the terraces, the herb garden, the sauna with bathtub, and the small island shop are just a step away.
