Mashpi Lodge
Mashpi private reserve, outskirts of Quito
I was impressed by this Lodge before I found out I represented them. A great place to start or end your Ecuadorian Adventure.

The strikingly contemporary Mashpi Lodge was designed as the ideal springboard for exploring the mega-biodiverse world of its 1,300-hectare cloud forest reserve, which lies within the Metropolitan District of Quito. Explore the wonders of the forest aboard the mile-long Dragonfly cable system, astride a “sky bike,” from the observation tower, at rivers and waterfalls, or along nature paths, all in the company of expert guides. The lodge, home to just 48 guests, is the perfect cocoon to return to after your explorations, thanks to its high standards of comfort, service, spa treatments and gourmet cuisine.

Carlota Hotel
San Marcos, Quito, Ecuador
With only 12 rooms, this boutique hotel is intimate, and being a Design Hotel, well thought out and up to date. One thing I always love about Design Hotels, is the restaurants tend to be exceptionally good.

A French-style home from the 1900s set just blocks from Quito’s main landmarks and sites, Carlota was created as an urban lifestyle design experience to fully immerse guests in the treasures of a UNESCO-listed city.

Me to We – Ecuadorian Rainforest Experience
Eastern Amazon Jungle Region – Tena, Ecuador
I was a bit skeptical of Me to We (M2W) at first, but they are a great organization and you actually help people of the region when you do a M2W excursion.

Deep in the Amazon jungle, the vast Napo River winds past shorelines enveloped by throngs of lush, emerald green forest and bursts of tropical color. By motorized canoe, traverse the Los Rios, a waterway that feeds into the world’s second longest river and learn about the creatures and insects that call this rainforest home. On shore, hike through dense flora and fauna with your expert guide, taking in spectacular panoramic views of your surroundings as well as parrots and rare bird species. Experience the joy and warmth of Kichwa culture as you’re welcomed into a local community, and connect with fellow mothers, fathers and families. Join a minga—a Kichwa word meaning “the coming together of people for the greater good”— and work alongside community members on a sustainable development project.

“Me to We was recommended to my husband and I as a way to see another part of the world and also be able to give back. The trip did not disappoint. Me to We accommodations were impeccable, the food exceeded expectations, the adventures and experiences were fun and educational. I would recommend these trips to anyone wanting to make a difference and have fun.”
