The first Aman to be built with a Golf Course… but fear not. The Golf Course came with the property. So this is not a Golfing Resort per se, rather a high end resort with a Golf Course attached. The Resort buildings designed by John Heah, this is a stunning Aman, though a bit detached from it’s local vibe, more so than many of the other Aman properties. With 25 Casitas and 1 Casa, all overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it has a small and intimate feeling. Building is under way completing the Villas that will be nested within and to the west of the Golf Course so that may change a bit over the next few years… but it is a large property spread out over 2100 acres.

Amanera structures suffered little from the Hurricane Irma, except, much of the young plantings and vegetation did not fair so well, so the resort has a few more years before that “New Resort” look vanishes. But this is the tropics, it will have that wilder overgrown look soon than later. And the resort is still a bit of work in progress. During the next seasonal closure, a new pool by the beach will be constructed. Which is a very good thing. Though this is a beach property, the surf is rather strong, and generally not safe to swim.

The two restaurants will serve mostly an Italian selection of food, sadly Dominican food lacks a bit of flare… but the chef has done a good job at representing the local foods. And, as with all Amans all you need to do is ask, and they will make what you want. You will most likely be dining here for several days.

Of course, now that an Aman has moved into this region… expect more interest from other resorts. The North Coast of the DR is rather off the radar, but that appears to be changing.
