Hong Kong (香港 hoeng gong – in Cantonese, meaning fragrant harbour) is a place with multiple personalities; the population is mainly Cantonese Chinese but British influence is quite visible. It is a unique destination that has absorbed people and cultural influences from places as diverse as Vietnam and Vancouver and proudly proclaims itself to be Asia’s World City.

Central Hong Kong
One of my favorite hotels. I can always recommend any of the Swire “House” brand hotels.
Elevate your contemporary Asian experience at The Upper House, a small luxury hotel set atop Hong Kong’s Pacific Place complex. Rise above the array of designer shops and entertainment venues to discover a relaxing, informal world where every whim is fulfilled. Starting on the 38th floor and featuring ample windows, the 117 airy and lavishly appointed rooms offer outstanding city and Victoria Harbour views. An IPTV allows guests to view the in-room dining menu, enjoy complimentary blockbuster movies and music, and provides other useful information.

Central Hong Kong
Another of my favorite all time hotels… though the view is less than spectacular.
Featuring the newest designer guest rooms in Hong Kong, this boutique hotel is in the heart of Hong Kong’s fashion and entertainment district. The rooms are among the largest in the city (from 600 square feet) and feature style, space, and comfort in a cozy residential ambience. Dining at Amber, the internationally acclaimed two-Michelin-starred restaurant, is a must-do activity when visiting Hong Kong. The sophisticated MO Bar and the speakeasy-style PDT (Please Don’t Tell) offer the most creative cocktails. The 25,000-square-foot Oriental Spa, one of the best in Asia, provides indulgent relaxation and wellness.

3/F, The Wellington, 198 Wellington Street, Hong Kong
In 2019, THE CHAIRMAN overtook 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana and Amber to become the highest Hong Kong entry on the Asia’s 50 Best list (it also follows its debut as part of the World’s 50 Best). It was a fitting way to celebrate the restaurant’s tenth anniversary. Chef Kwok Keung Tung’s steamed flowery crab in aged Shaoxing wine has become legendary, and the recently launched camphor wood-smoked seven-spiced goose is predicted to follow suit. In line with a thrust of championing Cantonese traditions, The Chairman sources produce from its own organic farm in Sheung Shui, as well as from around the country.

Mott 32 is one of the leading Chinese restaurants in the world. Created in Hong Kong, “Mott 32” pays homage to 32 Mott Street in New York, where the city’s first Chinese convenience store opened in 1891. The store served as the nucleus for what is now a vibrant Chinatown in one of the most dynamic cities. Our contemporary Chinese restaurant located in the heart of Central is thus a celebration of Hong Kong culture and culinary tradition and represents a modern Chinese city.
Art Basel Hong Kong 2023 will take place from March 23 to 25 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), with Vernissage on March 22 from 5pm to 9pm. As Hong Kong has lifted all remaining travel restrictions for arrival to the city, we look forward to welcoming back our international community to our upcoming Hong Kong show.
